Labradoodles A Lab-Poodle Mix

A Lab-Poodle mix seems like a no-brainer in the dog world, yet it took until the late 1980s for someone to breed these two incredibly popular dogs, and the result was a Labradoodle.

We'll get to the story behind this mix in a minute, but know that it has produced a dog that is simply terrific: friendly, great with kids, energetic but not hyper, gentle, intelligent and hypo-allergenic.

Does a Labradoodle sound like a great fit for you or your family? Trust us, no matter your circumstance, it will be, and we hope you choose a puppy from Stagazer Labradoodles. We have been breeding these dogs for years, and we got our start when we purchased our first Labradoodle because we heard they were hypo-allergenic and our son suffered from asthma. Well, our son had no problems with the dog and it turned out to be such a great all-around breed that we wanted others to be able to enjoy it. That's how we got in this business.

But back to the first Lab-Poodle mix. There was a vision-impaired Hawaii woman back in the late 1980s whose husband was allergic to her guide dogs. She requested a local guide dog service to come up with a non-shedding hypo-allergenic dog. In Australia in 1989, the first Lab-Poodle mix was born and thus the first Labradoodles (what else could they have called it?).

These dogs have exploded in popularity since, mainly because they are hypo-allergenic. According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, up to 30 percent of the U.S. population has allergic reactions to dogs and pets. And you know a large part of those would like to have a pet – we sure did. Thank you, Lab-Poodle mix.

The beauty of the Lab-Poodle mix is that the Labradoodle seems to have taken the best of both its parents: The great temperament and gentle nature of the Lab – Labradoodles' use a guide or therapy dog is on the rise – along with the trainability and lack of shedding by the Poodle. The Labradoodle is truly an intelligent, loyal, friendly, hypo-allergenic offspring, a great mix! And their life expectancy is terrific, generally 13-15 years.

Unfortunately, these hybrid dogs are not yet recognized as an official breed by the American Kennel Club, etc. But our Labradoodles are multi-generational and thus a true Lab-Poodle mix.

Does this sound like a perfect companion for you or your family? We offer Mini and Medium Labradoodles. A Mini will grow to between 12-16 inches and 15-23 pounds. A great choice for someone without a lot of living space. The Medium Labradoodles aren't a lot bigger, generally between 17-20 inches and up to 35 pounds. In all cases, females generally are a tad smaller than the males.

These dogs also come in several colors and in three coat sizes, really varying from more of a Poodle type to more of a Lab type. We usually have several to choose from but there is often a waiting list and we require a $500 deposit to reserve a puppy. We like to say that all of these dogs are family, and it's true. They live with us in our California home, and we wish we could keep them all, but we are always happy to hear back from so many customers who have purchased a Labradoodle puppy and say it's the best pet they have ever had. That makes it worth it.

We also will deliver these dogs to you personally if possible or arrange for a reputable puppy delivery service if not. There are no hidden fees in our cost for a puppy: $2500 covers everything, and the cost is the same regardless of size, color, parentage, etc. Of course all of our puppies will be up-to-date on all vaccinations and have a a two-year health guarantee. They will be de-sexed prior to delivery.
